Silsbee May Seek State Help On Through-Town Traffic
Silsbee officials discussed possible Texas Highway Department aid for a general highway plan to ease through-town traffic. Engineer J C Dingwall said he would submit the city’s traffic studies to the commission and report its decision soon. Council member J C Busby compared costs in Hamlin and noted Silsbee police budgets rose from about 35 000 to over 100 000 in three years under Police Chief Edgar Blood. The council approved budget figures showing police spending of 68 899.82 for 1968 69 and 98 569 for 1970 71. Fred Herron asked about citizen voting on zoning ordinance. Mayor Coward and C E Landolt Jr. said zoning was approved with the 1956 charter and again in 1966 amendments. Herron pressed that current residents should vote on zoning.
