Tax limitation urged in readers column in Silsbee paper
A column by readers in the Silsbee newspaper argues for constitutional tax limitation at both national and state levels. It cites rising tax take from 26 percent of national income in 1950 to over 40 percent today, forecasting over 50 percent by the 1980s. It quotes Senator Barry Goldwater advocating a balanced budget amendment and notes Arizona becoming the 20th state to request a constitutional convention. It asks readers whether their state will seek a convention to curb government spending.
