Texas Games and Fish Commission approves rolls over fisheries budget
The Texas Games and Fish Commission authorized 150000 in repairs to Rollover Fish Pass at Gilchrist in its annual budget at an Austin meeting. It tentatively earmarked another 300000 for 1957 58 and recommended simultaneous duck and goose seasons in Texas. The panel noted a federal increase for mourning dove season and discussed season lengths if federal authorities cut shooting privileges. Last year duck season rose to 75 days while goose remained 60 days. The commission urged identical zero hours for ducks and geese with a preferred start date of Friday November 3. The service allowed continued zoning for mourning dove hunting and five additional half days split between two zones with 45 days shot last fall. Public hunts to reduce surplus on four demonstration wildlife areas were approved and winterless deer hunting was sanctioned, except Kerr County.
