First Presbyterian Pastor Moves to Fairfield Texas

Dr. L. L. McCutchen, pastor of Silsbee First Presbyterian, will leave Jan. 21 to become pastor director of a larger Northeast Texas parish. He will serve Fairfield and Streetman churches from his new home in Fairfield. A congregational meeting will elect a committee to locate and recommend a new pastor.

New Congregation of Church of Christ Organized Here

A new Church of Christ congregation has formed in Silsbee and meets Sundays in the Community Hall. Rev. Jack Holt of Port Arthur preaches with Bible study from 10 to 10 45 a m and worship at 10 45 a m Sunday evening services start at 7 30 p m. A. C. McDonald reports good attendance and invites the public.

Savings And Loan Pays Dividend On Dec 31

Hardin County Savings and Loan Association announces its fifth semi annual dividend. A 3.5 percent dividend will be paid on savings deposits. Annual meeting for shareholders is set for January 9 at 7:30 p.m. at 127 N Fifth Street. all members invited.

Silsbee Man Hurt in Christmas Eve Auto Crash

Silsbee resident B Poland, 78, suffered three broken ribs and was hospitalized in Beaumont after a Dec 24 collision at Calder and Willow streets. He rode as a passenger in Clyde Yeagin's car, which struck a vehicle driven by Don A. Johnson.

Mike Fields Shot In Leg By Pellet Gun Accident

Mike Fields twelve year old son of Gertrude Fields of Silsbee was wounded when he was cleaning a twenty two caliber pellet gun. The pellet buried near the bone in his right leg penetrating a small artery. He underwent surgery at Baptist hospital to remove the pellet and repair damage, returning home Monday.

Heffner Retires as Magnolia Accounting Supervisor

O D Heffner of Silsbee retires from Magnolia Petroleum refinery after 35 years with the company joining in 1926. He served as timekeeper, ledgers supervisor since 1938 and is an elder in the First Christian church of Silsbee. He and his wife have three children, John L Heffner of Beaumont, Mrs R F Ford of Silsbee, and Mrs R A Murphy of Houston.

Open House Set After Silsbee Tigers Non-District Game

Silsbee High School hosts Beaumont Royals in a non-district basketball tonight in the new 172000 dollar gym. The Tigers and Royals met earlier this season with Beaumont winning. An open house follows the game for fans to tour the facility.

Funeral Service Held for James R. Allen 35

Funeral services for James Roland Allen 35 who died from a gunshot wound at his Port Arthur home were held at Frank's Branch Church north of Silsbee. Rev. David Lee Jenkins presided with interment in Frank's Branch cemetery. He was an electrician for Hinote Electric Co and survived by his wife Agnes, eight children, siblings, parents, and grandmother.

O B Hughes 77 died in Greggton Texas Monday night. The body remained at Mangrum Funeral Home Center until services at Short community cemetery near Center. Rev Elton Elrod of First Methodist Greggton officiated. Survivors include a son, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, a nephew Martin Wilson, and a niece Mrs Joe Register of Silsbee.

Quiet Christmas Arrest Totals Reported by County Officers

County deputies report a quiet Christmas weekend with 23 arrests in the past week at the Kountze county jail. Among the arrests were two driving while intoxicated cases one felony DWI four traffic incidents and the remainder drunken offenses. No cases were heard in county court during the week.
