Hardin County officials to take oaths in Jan 1 1971 ceremony
Twelve elected and appointed Hardin County officials will be sworn in at 10 a m Friday January 1 1971 in the Commissioners Court room in Kountze Judge Emmett Lack announces Barrington Donelson Moye Kerr Robinson Lambert Moore Martin Kimball McNeely Harper to take oath. Moye named County Auditor by District Judge H A Coe after screening applicants. He previously worked as controller for Delta Industrial Construction Co and senior auditor for the Defense Contract Audit Agency. He holds a BBA from the University of Houston.

OCAW contracts in area set to expire at midnight
Contracts between the Oil Chemical and Atomic Workers Union International and local petro chemical firms will end at midnight Thursday. No new pacts have been approved. The union has imposed a news blackout during renewed nationwide negotiations affecting about 12,000 workers at six plants, five refineries, and smaller facilities in the area.

Wreck and Vandalism Damage Four Autos in Silsbee Week
Silsbee police reported two car crashes and a rock throwing incident over December 25 and 26. Gregory Gallagher of Houston and William Carr of Silsbee were injured in the Saturday collision on Highway 327 West near Dardin Drive. Gallagher was treated and released. Carr was admitted in fair condition at St. Elizabeth Hospital Beaumont. A Christmas Day rock, aimed at a 1967 Mercury driven by Sheryl Nichols of Silsbee, shattered a window on FM 418 near Old Kountze Road, with Nichols reporting the incident.

City Sales Tax Nets Beginning In 1968
Silsbee's one percent city sales tax has raised 229547.32 since October 1968. City Secretary Jerry D. Jones reported after receiving 27881.70 for the first quarter of fiscal 1970 71 ending Oct 30. He noted 1968 69 revenue at 96880.52 and 1969 70 receipts at 104785.10. Funds support payoff of city notes and are distributed in the city budget each year.

Commissioners Re-Adopt Aug. 24 Redistricting Plan
After four months of litigation in Hardin County redistricting, the Commissioners voted 3-1 to re adopt their Aug. 24 plan despite U S District Judge Joe Fisher orders. They also agreed to take over new precincts on Jan 1, 1970 with specific allocations for Pcts 1 2 3 and 4 and approved payment to Beaumont firm Mehaffy Weber Keith and Gonsolin for legal fees.

Narcotics and goods stolen in Lumberton pharmacy burglary
Hardin County sheriff’s deputies investigated two burglaries in Lumberton area. The drug heist at the new Lumberton Pharmacy yielded about 635 dollars worth of narcotics and items including 21 wrist watches and radios. A separate break-in at Bell’s 7 11 north of Silsbee caused the loss of cigarettes and pocket knives after prying the rear door open.

Man 20 Shot To Death At Kountze Cafe
Edward Watson, 20, was killed in an 8 p.m. December 28 shooting at the Silver Spoon Cafe in Kountze. York Samuel, 66, owner of the cafe, was charged with murder and bond set at 5,000. Watson died from three gunshot wounds, investigators say.
