Silsbee Community Christmas Basket Fund Deliveries Begin

Workers directed by Bob Paret started delivering baskets to area families on Wednesday. Key Club volunteers from Silsbee High School packed baskets the day before, with Weeks Crawford coordinating. Over $300 was raised, and baskets included fresh vegetables milk butter and planned goods. Toys were repaired by Silsbee sororities for children. Trucks aim to finish deliveries by late Wednesday afternoon.

Collier's Hardware burglarized. pistols and TVs stolen

Burglars forced a restroom window at Collier Hardware Friday night stealing three television sets and several pistols from a display case. Owner Richard Collier reported the loss occurred between 12 and 1 AM. Deputy sheriffs Ira Moore and Dale Smith investigated. no arrests had been made by press time Wednesday.

Ancient Rite Of Confirmation At St John’s Church

The ancient rite of confirmation will be held at St John’s Church in Silsbec on December 30 with Bishop John E. Hines present to confer the rites. Rev Grant Herbst says the sacrament strengthens the Holy Spirit and marks mature life in the church. Regula services will be Sunday December 28 with church school at 10 and morning prayer plus sermon at 11.

A correction states County Attorney Farl Stover did not represent the Woodward estate in the Silsbee right of way lawsuit. The Woodwards were represented by Earl Wills of Silsbee, not by Mr Stover.

Youth Carolers Sing Through Rain in City Event

In a Community Christmas Caroling event despite heavy rain, 35 youths sang across the city to Deck The Halls. They rode a single bus between locations, ending at First Baptist Church for a Friendship Circle led by Rev. Bobby G Roberts, with cookies and hot chocolate served. The interdenominational effort was sponsored by the Silsbee Ministers' Fellowship.

Woman's Club helps Boys Haven with Christmas gift

Silsbee Woman's Club met December 11 at Mrs. L. Tucker's home for a Christmas party with the theme Religion. Members sang various songs and wore Christmas decor. They pinned dollar bills on the tree to donate to Boys Haven in Beaumont. next meeting is January 8 at 3 p.m. at Mrs. L. P. Skinner's home.

Jasper County Road Bond Issue Fails Narrow Margin

A Jasper County Road District 7 bond election near the Neches River failed to pass. Voters required a two thirds majority. total 125 ballots were cast with Evadale 75 for and 32 against and Cherry Grove 4 for and 14 against. The vote hinged on a split Jasper County Court, with two commissioners opposing and three voting to hold the election.

County Savings Bond Sales Reach 74 Percent of Goal

Hardin County citizens bought 9922 in Series E and H bonds in November. N A Cravens, chairman of the county Savings Bonds Committee, said eleven month sales total 202954 and that 74 percent of the 1958 county goal of 275000 has been reached. Texas bond sales for eleven months hit 157642990, or 80 percent of its 175000000 goal.

Former Silsbee Resident Killed In Beaumont Crash

Funeral services pending for Mrs Hl G Bevil of Beaumont former Silsbee resident killed in a two car collision at Sixth and Long streets in Beaumont Tuesday noon. She was wife of Dr H G Bevil who practiced in Silsbee before moving to Beaumont 28 years ago. She is survived by daughter Mrs Genevieve Ream and a grandson with two sisters. Funeral directed by Roberts and Pipkin-Brulin.

Silsbee Boxers Win Six Matches At Fort Arthur

Silsbee amateur boxing team led by Buddy Weems and Carl Bonner won six bouts in Port Arthur last week with one draw and one loss. Don Wrencel and Buddy Weems won by decision, Lynn Hargrove and Smokey Skinner won in their weights, while Creekmore and Bonner also won. Three Are Fined In County Court 18 Arrests Reported

Three men pleaded guilty in county court this week with two for drunk driving and one for aggravated assault. Cammie Washington of Silsbee, 10, fined 100 dollars and 90 days in jail for aggravated assault after resisting arrest and seizing a pistol. Barney Lee Ainsworth and Paul Harrison each fined 200 dollars and three days in jail for driving while intoxicated. A total of 18 arrests were reported at the jail by deputy Dave Rountree, including aggravated assault, drunkenness, vagrancy, and multiple DWH and traffic offenses.

Fireworks Stand Fire at Ponder’s Service Station

An exploding fireworks stand at Ponder's Service Station near the junior high drew Silsbee volunteer firefighters Tuesday around 4 PM. Mrs. Frank Ponder, inside the metal shack, said she could not explain the sudden explosions. Firemen quickly doused flames and prevented most fireworks from detonating. she was frightened but unhurt.

A 10.1 mile paving project on U S Highway 69 in Hardin County was awarded to R B Smith Inc of Houston for 580374 17. The work from SH 327 to US 96 includes loading structures and two course surface treatment and should take 165 working days.
