ROW Bond Issue Passes In Hardin County Vote

Hardin county voters approved a 1.5 million right of way bond to widen highways and acquire land for new roads. Unofficial tally 756 Yes to 140 No with Village Mills in support 10 to 8. Funds target five year program and $3 million in awaiting construction.

Work Resumed On Sewer Plant After Settlement

City resumes work on the main feeder line to the new sewer plant after a lawsuit by Mrs. Minnie G Woodward and family over easement and damages was settled out of court. The dispute with Texala Construction Co halted work briefly until a $100 settlement was paid and the project continued.

Three Drunk Drivers Fined in Kountze Court

Three men Ronald Burdett Port Arthur William P Williams Beaumont and Fred Grimes Galveston pleaded guilty in county court at Kountze. They were fined 50 dollars and costs and three days in jail each with one man also paying 25 dollars and costs for driving with a suspended license. DWI convictions bring six month license suspension. A total of 20 arrests that week were reported by county officers. Alvin E Powell 21 of Port Arthur faced burglary charges for Cochran Grocery theft after being found in a car stolen from Gulf States Utilities. The old Kirby doctor's office in Silsbee was burglarized with two fans taken.

Kirbyville junior high tournament action sees Silsbee Cubs post a 4-1 run in consolation with wins over Little Cypress West Orange and Kirbbyville, a 35-33 loss to Kirbyville in opener, and a 62-37 victory over Victor. The team prepares for Groves clash at home this Thursday with games scheduled at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Silsbee city council approved purchasing a Plymouth police car. Donalson Motor Company was the low bidder at 1254 plus trade. Silsbee Auto Co. bid 1678 less on a Ford. Miller Dunbar Motor Co. bid 1694 less on a Chevrolet. Max Zeller urged taxi franchise action but council said no move while Rex Fones holds it. Concrete work on Woodlea Boulevard ditch was approved with council member Landolt noting erosion concerns.
