Die-Off Of Small Fish Predicted On Texas Coast
Hot weather and stagnant bays along the Texas coast, especially Galveston, may trigger a heavy die-off of small fish this summer. Terrance Leary of the Game and Fish Commission cites oxygen starvation in crowded bays, with menhaden and other small fish most affected. Texas produced 145 million pounds of menhaden last year, and a Port Arthur plant processes them. He cautions sports fishermen not to be alarmed.
