First Cotton Bale 28 Days Late in Sikeston Season
Thirty eight days after the prior year the first bale of Sikes ton cotton was ginned on two Grover Baker tracts farmed by W. R. Evans and Velma Evans. A 1320 pound yield from 15 acres was compressed into a 485 pound bale at Sikeston Gin. Frost and rot threaten bolls amid cool damp weather.

The Baseline Gin of the Black Gin Co. ginned the first bale of 1945 cotton last Saturday, September 22. The bale weighed 4961 pounds with 1360 pounds of seed. The cotton, D. & P. L. variety, came from the Joe Emerson farm near Morley. Price was 221 cents per pound for cotton and $40 per ton for seed, with picking at $2 per hundred pounds.
