Judge Xenophon Caverno Dies at Canalou Farm Leader
Judge Xenophon Caverno, a Canalou farm leader and planter born in 1865, died Saturday at his home after a heart attack. Funeral held at Lake Mills Congregational Church, body cremated in St. Louis. Survived by widow Louise Lay Caverno, daughter E Sisson, grand children. another daughter died in 1935. He authored water systems, ran 1000acre model farm, and served on Missouri farm policy and cotton boards.

Heavy Garage Fire Damages Mitchell-Sharp Showroom
A Saturday morning blaze at the Mitchell Sharp Chevrolet repair shop on Center Street caused over 10000 in damage to the building owned by the Matthews estate and to several vehicles and tires. Fire started when an employee used wash gasoline while cleaning parts, with sparks possibly from nearby trash fires fueling the inferno. Thick oil soaked the roof and black smoke enveloped the shop, four of nine cars moved to safety before flames intensified. Fire extinguishers failed to curb the blaze until the department arrived. two hours of effort, aided by a strong west wind, finally brought it under control. Insurance covered losses to structure and furnishings. The brick building has housed the shop and Chevrolet sales for 11 years, with the Buick division across the street.

Former Sikeston Mayor N E Fuchs Dies At 58
Funeral services were held for N E Ed Fuchs former Sikeston mayor and longtime resident. He served ten years as mayor over two periods and twelve years as alderman. He died Monday afternoon after years of ill health. He was born November 6 1882 in Rome Indiana and survived by a son two brothers and a sister. He helped guide city projects including the light and power plant widening Malone avenue paving North and South Kingshighway deep wells and a new library armory and aero club land. He had 28 years with E C Robinson Lumber Company. He also formerly served as Tell City wharf master.

One Killed In Highway 60 Car Crash Near Sikeston
A Sunday night two car collision on Highway 60 west of Sikeston left 51 year old Scott H Webb of Dudley dead at Sikeston General Hospital. George Carrothers of St Louis and C H Young of Canalea were involved. Carrothers and his wife suffered minor injuries while several passengers in Young car were hurt. Webb’s funeral was held in Sikeston with burial near Dudley. Carrothers waived preliminary hearing on intoxicated driving charges and remains jailed for the November circuit court term.

Mrs Anderson Injured En Route to Mayo Clinic

Picking prices range from $1.25 to $2.00 per hundred pounds, with averages near $1.50, as three Sikeston gins double their weekly ginnings and over 2,400 bales are anticipated.
