Osteopaths Hold Missouri State Convention in October
Dr H E Reuber led Missouri Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons at the 52nd annual convention in Jefferson City October 6 8 at the Governor Hotel. Missouri now has 1132 osteopathic physicians ranking second nationally behind California. Missouri has two accredited osteopathic schools Kirksville and Kansas City with over 700 students. The colleges received 50000 grants from the U S Public Health Service to fund cancer teaching programs. The association reported 52 osteopathic owned hospitals in the state. Dr Theodore Corcanges of Raytown became president and Dr Reuber attended with his wife as a Southeast Missouri delegate.

Matthews Cotton House Burns In Matthews Fire
Southeast Missouri reports a second major blaze at E. P. Coleman Gin in Matthews. The cotton house burned Friday, 62 bales of lint saved, loss estimated at 20000 dollars. A prior Sept 7 blaze destroyed 25 bales. A Canalou gin owned by Allen Davis also suffered a cotton house fire earlier last week with about 16 bales destroyed.

Special Day For Voter to Register
An official registration day will be held in each precinct next Wednesday for all persons not yet registered to vote in the coming general election. George Kirk, chairman of the board of registrars, said a registrar will be in each precinct from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Anyone who misses this may register at the City Clerk's office before 5 p.m. on Oct 22. The second Wednesday before the election is the last registration day. About 4,550 had registered. ~109 more are expected. To vote, a person must live in the precinct 10 days, in the county 60 days, and in the state one year.

The Cotton Boll Area Girl Scout Council was honored at the regional Hight Conference in Omaha. Growth since its four year formation now spans 18 towns with about 1800 girl members, 250 leaders and board members. Seed Houses at McMullin Burns Destroyed by Fire
Two seed houses owned by C. F. McMullin estate, six miles north of Sikeston, were burned Friday at about 2 a.m. Howard Linam, foreman, spotted the blaze and alerted help but the fire overwhelmed the buildings. Most of the harvested hybrid corn was in processing, and Kevil reported partial insurance coverage.

The Sikeston Chamber of Commerce announces two more Scott County farmers qualified for the SEMO 100-Bushel Corn Club, bringing total 1952 members to twenty. Harold Hill and John L. Wilson posted 112.74 and 102.64 bushels per acre respectively, with Hill reporting 10,904 stalks per acre and 0.66 lb ear weight on 40 acres in Morley. Fertilizer and soil testing aided yields, as five Scott County farmers have qualified so far this year.
