The New York Yankees defeated the Brooklyn Dodgers 3 to 1 Monday afternoon to win the 1941 World Series in the fifth and final game. The World Series mark shows the Yankees winning 32 of 36 games in the last eight editions.
Pamela Hollingsworth five year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph Hollingsworth of Conway New Hampshire was found Tuesday after eight days and nights of being missing rescuers reported she was smiling and unafraid during her recovery
The Scott County Milling Company lifted a three week strike closing period as red mol grinding trucks resumed routes this morning. About 1000 of Sikeston’s 8000 residents directly felt the hit and the town’s economy wrestles with lost wages and unpaid bills while the mill gains higher wages.
The Sikeston municipal swimming pool posted a net profit of 1636.02 in its first year, per a city council report by the Junior Chamber of Commerce committee led by Conly Purcell. Receipts totaled 3273.54 with disbursements of police.
Remodeling of the city hall second floor to house a State Board of Health laboratory is nearly finished. Alderman E. H. Smith leads the project with an estimated final cost around 500 dollars for plumbing and electrical work. The city funds the remodeling. the state will staff the lab treating Southeast Missouri.
Rev. E. D. Owen officiated at the marriage of C. C. Chandler of Sikeston and Miss Naomi Trotter of Bloomfield at George Munger's home. The couple plans to reside in Sikeston.
R L Bob Guthrie named manager of the Sikeston branch succeeding the late N E Fuchs. Guthrie, 11 years with the firm, previously worked in Campbell Kennett and Belle before transfer. He's active in the Baptist church and local civic life, living with Mrs Guthrie and children Barbara Jean and Bobby on Matthews Avenue.
A district conference in Poplar Bluff on October seven outlined a campaign to boost farm output for 1942. Attendees from New Madrid County included Earl Cambron, Paul H. Teal, and Henry W. Whittenburg. The effort aims to raise dairy, poultry, hogs, and beef to meet county and state goals, with township ACA committee surveys starting soon and wrapping by December 1.
Weather records show a Monday high of 85 degrees and a recent low of 49. Forecasters expect continued cloudy skies tonight and tomorrow with a return to cooler, clearer conditions by Saturday and Sunday.

Other actions included financial reports, pool operation briefing, street light requests, condemnation tabling, Sunset Third addition, Prairie Street paving, light plant staffing, a one way alley designation, street cleaner wage hike, license collection mandate.
Carl Mirly, distributor for Delco Light, establishes headquarters at Sikeston Sales Company plant on Highway 61 north. He serves 31 counties in Southeast Missouri and southern Illinois, has 15 years with the company, and lately works with Hubert Keasler, Sikeston Sales manager. Mirly will spend Saturdays in his office.
George W. Kirk was re elected treasurer of the Missouri Kansas Arkansas Kiwanis District at the state convention in Excelsior Springs. He has served as district treasurer for two years and was a past president of the Sikeston club, remaining an active member since its formation.
Delbert K. Harter world traveler and lecturer will speak at Sikeston High School Friday at 11 am. The free program, announced by Superintendent R A Harper, promises one of the year's best assembly talks. Harter has visited fifty eight countries in two and a half years of world history travel.
The National Resources Planning Board released a detailed analysis of American family spending for 1935-1936. It shows total income of 48 billion dollars shared among about 29.4 million families, with an average of 1622 dollars per family. Farm families earned 1215 dollars, rural nonfarm 1409, city 1855. Food cost 467 dollars per family, housing 248, and furnishings 209. Clothing 141, cars 54, auto operation 60. Medical care 64, recreation 41, personal care 28, tobacco 26.
A big auction sale of houses and lots and small tracts of land on Highway 60 near the airport, owned by W. T. Crowe, is advertised as a red letter day for Sikeston and vicinity. Agents of the Ben Johnson Land Company and Caleb Smith promote the sale with the slogan now is the time to buy real estate, backed by sound track ads and thousands of handbills across Southeast Missouri.
Rain damaged the 1941 cotton crop in Sikeston district while picking resumed Monday. Ginners estimate about 70 percent picked and 6,000 bales may be ginned by week’s end as prices fall to 16 cents per pound and seed sells for 50 dollars per ton. Black Bros. gins in Southeast Missouri and Olive Branch Illinois report over 4,600 bales. Picking costs range from 1.25 to 1.50 per hundred pounds.
Pvt Albert Martin and Pvt Moses Charmakjian were brought to Sikeston General Hospital after maneuvers in the South. Martin had an appendectomy and was sent to Jefferson Barracks. Charmakjian was treated and resumed his trip. Other patients include appendectomy and medical cases, amputation injury to Omar Hubble, and injuries from a car wreck to Frank Kiefer.
New arrivals include Patsie Jean Medcalf born October 2 to Mr. and Mrs. Wm. T. Medcalf at home. Yvonne Sue Beardsley born October 7 to Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Beardsley at Crowder. Mary Lou Lentz born October 8 to Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Lentz at Bell City. A son born October 5 to Mr. and Mrs. William Lasley in Sikeston General Hospital, and a daughter born October 5 to Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Walker at Sikeston General Hospital.
Mr and Mrs Everett Harbison, farmers from the Sikeston district, transacted business in the area today, reflecting routine local commerce and agricultural ties within the community.
Mrs W D Gaines and her son Virgil visited Sikeston as business visitors. They have operated the same Matthews area farm for 18 years and reported crops this year as good or better than their best.
Mill workers and union representatives meet with government conciliators to finalize a contract after a three week strike that idled the Scott County Milling Company’s three mills since Sept. 15. Details are pending formal signing.
