Fire Department Receives City Praise for Putnam Market Fire
Fire Chief Milburn Arbaugh received a congratulatory letter from the City of New York Insurance Company praising the Sikeston Fire Department for its handling of the Putnam's Market fire last August. The blaze was extinguished with minimal water use, limiting stock and fixture losses.

Trio Hurt In Car Train Wreck Sikeston Crossing
Three in a westbound Chevrolet were injured when the car struck a Frisco freight train at the Highway 60 crossing in Sikeston. Jiggs Johnson drove the car, Miss Geraldine Wine rode with him, and Miss Mattie Wills owned the vehicle. Wounds included a fractured jaw for Johnson and Wills, with others severely cut. They were treated locally then taken to Cape Girardeau hospital.

On Saturday October 8 the Southeast Missouri Telephone Company will relocate its business office to Center street west of the city hall. Twenty workmen install a new switchboard and equipment, with completion expected by October 18. Visitors may inspect the new building anytime. Cr W Bouin, president, announced.

Fourteenth Neighbor Day Held in Benton
The Benton Neighbor Day celebration continues with displays by merchants and manufacturers, athletic events, band concerts, boxing, and other attractions. The queen was crowned at 1:30 PM with Senator Albert M Clark of Richmond officiating. Severe Burns From Cotton Wagon Fire Resulting in Exposed Bones
John Vandemark of Canaloa sustained severe burns to both hands and arms yesterday afternoon after a man on a cotton wagon tried to light a cigarette. The flame ignited loose cotton, Vandemark’s team of young mules bolted, he managed to stop them and extinguish the fire. His smoking companion escaped unharmed. Vandemark was moving cotton from his field to a gin when the incident occurred.

Three vehicles collided on Highway 61 south of Sikeston around eight Saturday night.
