Drumming Convention Draws 200 in Sikeston Past
Thirty years ago this week the Southeast Missouri Drummers Association held its 24th annual meeting in Sikeston with almost 200 members present. The event, once a major convention, drew hotels to capacity, while later years saw attendance decline to about 50. In 1920 Milton Hass served as warden and a wives reception took place at the Haas home on West Center Street with Sikeston Woman's Club hostesses.

Twenty years ago on May 22 1930 Sikeston high school awarded 29 diplomas led by top students Robert Struve and Hazel Lumsden. Bonds for a municipal electric plant were sold to a Kansas City firm at par with 5 percent interest after litigation and delays. Scott county court issued a final order on Highway 61’s location between Benton and Sikeston.

Missouri Highway 61 ranked fourth in traffic volume
Ten years ago on May 23, 1948 a State Highway Department survey showed Highway 66 first, Highway 40 second, and Highway 71 third in Missouri traffic. Sikeston High School graduated 73 seniors. Theodore Hopper harvested alfalfa on the farm.

Sikeston Obituary and School Graduation Noted in 1945 News
Five years ago on May 24, 1945 a Missouri Press Association district meeting occurred at the public library. A circus drew 400 Boy Scouts and Cubs from Sikeston. Dr G W H Presswell, longtime physician and twice mayor, died at his Glanys street home. Sikeston High School awarded diplomas to 62 seniors, 46 girls and 16 boys.

Labertyville Christian Church marks 128th anniversary
The Labertyville Christian Church celebrated its 128th anniversary with all day services on Sunday. Organized May 17, 1822 by settlers from Virginia and Tennessee, anniversary meetings occur annually on the third Sunday in May. A basket dinner was enjoyed by a large crowd.
