Poppy Day Set In Sikeston For May 28
Sikeston will observe Poppy Day on May 28 the Saturday before Memorial Day announced by Mrs. Harry Dudley, chairwoman of the Henry Meldrum Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary. Volunteers from the Legion Auxiliary and its junior units will distribute Memorial poppies made by disabled World War veterans. No price is set for the poppies and all contributions aid relief work for disabled veterans and their families in the city.

Charles M. Liles of Dexter represented the Federal housing unit at a town meeting of lumber dealers builders and Sikeston residents held at the Marshall Hotel Tuesday evening. The discussion followed his FHA law amendments with interest in continuing Sikeston's three year building program but little new information emerged on securing loans. No local loan arrangements were made as most loans for new projects come from out of town agencies, prompting a proposal to form a local committee to pursue ready loans locally.

A Lambert flight delivered mail to Sikeston today as Nation al Air Mail Week events honored the service. Aboard pilot Joe Imeson’s plane from St Louis Airlines, about 30 air mail letters were exchanged with mail from Fornfelt, Morley, New Madrid, Bertrand, Lilbourn, Gray Ridge, Kewanee, Oran, Conran, East Prairie, Anniston, Commerce, Dexter, Benton, Marston, Blodgett, Portageville, Drumo, Essex and Cairo. White Front Tavern Destroyed by Fire
Fire gutted the White Front Tavern a frame and stucco building on Highway 60 west of the Frisco tracks early Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Louis McFadden operated it. fire departments found it largely destroyed with minor damage to an adjoining frame addition used by D. M. Bryant and family. The owner was Bryant and Jim Vowells. Insurance on the building was $1000. total damage estimated around 3000 to 3300.
