Sikeston Narrowly Escapes Severe Storm Toll
Sikeston endured heavy rains and high winds from a tornado and cyclone that struck Scott County. The tornado ripped into rural areas near Crowder and north of Sikeston, destroying barns homes and a school, injuring at least one person while several families sought shelter in cellars. The storm crossed Highway 61 near Kluge Hill and moved toward Morley Fornfelt and Tilmo, with widespread damage to barns outbuildings and power lines, before a cyclone followed, blasting farms north of Sikeston along Tanner road and toward Bertrand and Charleston.
