Tragic Sikeston kerosene stove blast claims mother and child
Mrs. Ruth R. Fincher, 28, and her two-year-old son Martin died after a kerosene can exploded while she prepared supper at a farm southwest of Sikeston. The flames were extinguished by her father-in-law. slight home damage occurred. Funeral services were set for the next afternoon at Albritton Funeral Chapel. Survivors include husband Verlon Fincher and children Milburn and Melba, plus Hatley relatives.

Wade Tucker told The Herald about his garden near Sikeston, claiming his one seventh of an acre produced 1745 pounds of tomatoes last year, using Marglobe tomatoes on Sikeston Ridge soil. He says the crop compares favorably with lands from the Rio Grande Valley and similar regions.
