The new $5000 water pump earned approval after a test showing a maximum 920 gallons per minute, exceeding the 750 gpm target. Superintendent Chas. Moose said the pump will be active within 30 days, with a small structure added over it at Hast Center street. The pump joins two older units, and will expand city capacity beyond the existing supply.

A rare annular solar eclipse will be visible Sunday afternoon from 2:50 to 5:12 in the local area. Pemiscot County Men Sentenced for Murder
Adrian Posey and Odis Fowler were found guilty of second degree murder in the September 10, 1938, killing of Mary Vaughn by a Pemiscot County circuit court jury in Caruthersville. They were each sentenced to 15 years in the penitentiary. Vaughn's battered body was found in a field near a tavern. her husband Gay Vaughn was found nearby unconscious from head blows and testified he was struck while attempting to take his wife home.

Escaped convict steals Mrs Barton s auto
Mrs S W Barton returned to Sikeston with her Cadillac after visiting relatives in Carterville Tennessee. The car then travelled to Olive Branch Mississippi with an escaped convict from the Federal Penitentiary at Nashville in charge. The vehicle was stolen Friday night from Dr James Glenn s driveway in Carterville and found the next day in Olive Branch. The convict was captured when his prison uniform was found discarded and was sent back to Nashville.
