Work Next Week On New Church for Assembly of God
Construction will begin within eight days on a new Assembly of God church at East Kathleen avenue and South Kingshighway. The T shaped all brick tile building will include a 15 by 115 foot auditorium and a two story educational block 50 by 90 feet. Until the auditorium is ready the first floor of the educational building will serve as an auditorium. Superintendent Hubert Sikes leads the project with an estimated cost of $100,000. Cotton yield in Southeast Missouri may drop by a third
Kennett Missouri June 30 Weather could trim Southeast Missouri cotton yields by as much as one third. Ronnie F Greenwell of Hayti, secretary of the Missouri Cotton Growers Association, said losses are greatest between New Madrid and Hayti where rains kept farmers out of fields and grass and weeds overtook crops. Even with rain stopping, field cleanup costs could wipe out salvage value, and farmers hope to replant to soybeans by July 1. He estimates just over 600000 acres planted in Southeast Missouri, compared with 543000 acres in 1918 when 509000 bales were ginned, with a possible crop near half a million bales this year. Snow blanketed Mount Hood with six inches as Oregon faced cold weather. Lakeview reported 29 degrees, Redmond 31, and Klamath Falls 32.
