The Rev Grover Cleveland Brawley pastor of the Church of the Nazarene at Morehouse died Monday morning at 6 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau after serving his church for years. Born February 12, 1883 in Radford Mo he worked as a farehouse worker 22 years. Surviving are his wife Mrs Jara Brawley and eight grandchildren plus three daughters Alpha Lacey Mavis Brant and Vielmia Ferrer all of Morehouse. Body prepared by Albritton Funeral Home Sikeston, then moved to the family home in Morehouse. Instate Wednesday. services Thursday at Radford with Rev John DeArman of Dexter officiating. Burial in Radford cemetery with Albritton service.
In Jackson circuit court Judge Marshall Craig impaneled a grand jury to probe newly found evidence in the death of Bonnie Huffman a 20 year old Delta school teacher found dead July 5 1954. Roy Estes 35 of near Delta was questioned and released after prosecutors declined charges. The panel led by William Wampler is tasked with thorough impartial investigation and to call witnesses from multiple counties and officials. An open court appeal asks citizens to provide information or subpoenas as needed to aid the grand jury with the case and related matters.
G Parker Rowe of Sikeston and George W McCol lum of Seligman were named assistant county agents on the Missouri Agricultural Extension Service staff. Both are University of Missouri graduates Rowe earned a BS in agriculture in 1951 and a MS in 1954.
The emo Shrine Mounted Patrol plans the first annual horse show with ten classes, each sponsored by local firms. A young lady from the area will present awards for each class, with judges and a large crowd expected at the high school football field Saturday night.
The Fiftieth District Masonic Association will hold its 91st quarterly meeting in Sikeston’s Masonic Temple on Friday June 29 with hundreds expected. The program opens at 6:30 pm, includes a social hour, a dinner by Eastern Star, and entertainment by Froggie and His Frogleg Band plus baton twirling and tap by Regina Harwell. Remarks by leaders and a business meeting follow before a benediction.
Reece Mason, retired farmer of 226 East Kathleen Street, died at 4:00 PM Tuesday at Barnes Hospital in St Louis after a long illness. He was 69, born January 4, 1887, in Richwoods north of Sikeston, son of the late Vic and Mrs John Mason. He married Lutie Grant on September 1, 1908. survivors include son Harry Mason of Fredericktown, daughter Mrs Martha Hendricks of Mount Morris, five grandchildren, a brother Emors Mason of Oran, and sister Mrs Lina J Miner of Sikeston. Services at Welsh Funeral Chapel with burial in Garden of Memories. Burial will follow Welsh service.
