Paving Progress in Sikeston Shows Broad Street Improvements
Harold Pitman and Dr. W E Derris pave the north and south sides of a narrow block with concrete twenty feet wide. A long needed concrete stretch on south Prairie between Greer and Kathleen now complete, with plans to continue to East Gladys and Matthews Avenue. Other large concrete projects include East Gladys from Highway 61 to Maple Street and sections on College, Hunter, Wallace and Wakefield Streets. The Lee Hunter Addition gains a major concrete pavement from North Kingshighway to the Lee Hunter School, with parts divided. Additional work on Wallace, Hunter and Good Hope Streets in Tanner Land Addition near the new El Capri Court, and extensive paving on Smith Avenue in the Smith Addition. A long concrete strip on Highway 61 to Ens Street and a gravel base on several avenues are planned, with property owners paying half and the city half. Gravel resurfacing planned for Fairgrounds and Sumset areas alongside sanitary line replacements.
