A few hundred residents braved 91 degree heat on Sunday to officially open Sikeston’s new municipal pool. Mayor G W Presnell led the dedication with a brief program, praising public recreation and citing historical roots in public baths, while architects and pool committee members explained facilities and rules.

Funeral services were held this afternoon for George Frederick Limbaugh Sr. a 69 year old retired farmer from Advance who died from injuries suffered in a fall at his home. He is survived by his wife Mary and three children George and Isail Limbaugh of Sikeston and Mrs. Jack Fitzgerald of Oakland. Registration for Scott county youth reaches 21 on July 1
The Scott county local draft board will conduct the second registration for men who turned 21 since last fall on July 1 at the Benton courthouse from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Plans are still tentative but officials expect the process to be managed by local board staff without outside aid. About 70 seniors attended a meeting at the I O O F hall as the Scott county unit of the Missouri Old Age Pension Society formed. The group aims to push state court handling of old age aid with a bi partisan board, seeks $1 or less dues, plans to send delegates to a August state convention, and discussed potential $20 monthly pensions with federal matching funds.
