Eight-year-old Clifford Dale Bailey of Dudley Missouri lost his right arm after a shotgun discharged during a rabbit hunt when the gun slipped from his grasp. The injury occurred near his home Tuesday afternoon. He was taken by State Highway Patrol to Missouri Delta Community Hospital where the arm was amputated and his condition improved. The body of an unidentified person is at Smith Funeral Home in Sunset Addition with funeral arrangements incomplete.
Geneva Davis aged 55 wife of Audue Davis of Matthews died Sunday morning at 12 30 at her home. Survived by husband ten children Willie J Norman Audue Davis Jr Elmer Davis and others plus 29 grandchildren a sister Queen Esther Wooten of Mississippi and six brothers Virgil Marshall Kutchel Milton and Sample Alexander, with additional survivors in Detroit Essex and Chicago.
Mrs Lon Gilliland aged 66, of Rural Route 2, died at 6 20 Monday morning after a long illness at the home of her daughter Mrs Edgar Ring Route 2. Born Lebanon Missouri April 30 1899 she was the daughter of Mr and Mrs William Rodgers. Survived by husband Lon Gilliland a son Lewis Gilliland Route 2 two daughters Mrs Vernice Barks East Moline Illinois and Mrs Ring Route 2 and two grandchildren Also three brothers Bob Rodgers Chicago Ernest Rodgers Palmetto Louisiana Anderson Rodgers Diess Arkansas.
Max Eddy formerly taught at Sikeston High School and married Miss Marcile Francis. He earned a doctor of philosophy from the University of Missouri and will join Purdue University Lafayette Indiana as a professor starting July 1.
Malone and Hyde Organization employees at Sikeston walked out on strike demanding a union shop and pay raises, while management rejects the immediate contract offer. Pickets line the grounds as police pledge enforcement. plant remains open with staff filling in as needed. Tom Baker of Trauback Plantation joins Young Presidents Organization and serves as Planters Bank director in Sikeston.
The Rotary Club at the Dunn Hotel hosted Dairy Month with O E Allen extension economist discussing milk’s value. Speakers included J S Wallace of the state extension and Jim Beard of the Chamber of Commerce as guests sampled milk cartons from Mad west Dats. Allen cited dairy’s economic and nutritional importance, noting milk’s role in farm income, employment, and daily calcium and protein intake. Linnie Whitworth and Frank Sisson introduced the day’s program, with Len Harwell as chair and Miss Judy Shank of Diehlstadt among Maid of Milk entrants.
About 6,500 residents are eligible to vote in the Angus primaries and general election. Some 2,400 registered April 19 or 20. County Clerk Phil Waldman Jr. urged registration on June 18 with all precincts open. A 28 day prior requirement to vote in August 7 primaries. July 9 cutoff for registrations. City Council actions include buying the Berry-Palmer & Day building for $55,000 for admin offices, a 50 percent increase in merchants licenses to boost revenue, and Jaycees purchasing Sikeston Country Club and Municipal Swimming Pool for $40,000 with separate operations.
Mary Burger Schlosser, mother of P J Schlosser of Sikeston, died Tuesday at her Ilmo home at 77. Born May 29 1879 near Kelso, she married John Schlosser in 1897. Surviving: three daughters, three sons, three brothers, three sisters, 26 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Funeral at St Augustine Church Kelso with Rev Keusenkothen. burial in the church cemetery.
Funeral services for Harry C Watkins Sr. will be Thursday at 2 PM at Earl J Smith Funeral Home Oran, conducted by Rev Jery Statler. Interment in Watkins Cemetery near Morley. Watkins died Tuesday at Deal Nursing Home Jackson aged 86, born Dec 20 1869 near Morley. Survived by three sons Richard L Watkins Sr Harry C Watkins Jr and Myron Watkins, a sister Mrs Susan Watkins, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Mrs Geneva W Hagy nee Preston died at Missouri Delta Community Hospital nine days after her infant daughter's death. Born January 21 1925 in Crowder she is survived by husband George W Hagy three children Merlin Gayle Donald and Dianne and sister Mrs Geraldine Ray of Sikeston. She was 3 1/2 years in Sikeston from Blodgett and belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Government farms to be used in claiming a two cent per gallon refund for gas used in farming are now available at the New Madrid County Extension Office. Refunds for the first six months of 1956 are to be filed with the district director of Internal Revenue. These forms are also available at the post office.
Carl Vincent of Sikeston, longtime Sikeston Lodge 358 and Patriarchs member, is appointed District Deputy Grand Master for District No. 97. Commissioned by Albert L. Wholf, Grand Master, he will serve as agent for the Grand Master and Grand Secretary. His staff includes D. D. G. Marshals Raymond Wright, Roy Howell, W. L. Kirby as secretary, Lyman Dame chaplain, Fred Forbis treasurer, Cecil Daughert inside guardian.

Rogers 69 former Diehlstadt resident who died Friday at a Cape Girardeau hospital Rogers born in Crit tenden Kentucky March 23 1887 was son of John A and Mrs Rogers Family moved to near Diehlstadt Scott County and he farmed there He married Stella Mae Bell September 14 1914 and moved to Farnfelt community in 1933 He was a farmer and contractor retiring ten years ago due to health Mrs Rogers died March 4 1941 Surviving are three sons John Charles Rogers Fornfelt and Carl Rogers Illmo a daughter Mrs Thomas R Cochran Williams Arizona six grandchildren and one sister Mrs Charlotte Sneed Fornfelt
