Whirlwind romance ends in quick Sikeston wedding
William W. Humes, 72, and Maggie McCoy Humes, 61, wed at the home of Dick Humes with Rev. C. F. Transue officiating. The couple met last November and after six days together in White Bluff Tennessee, they began their life as newlyweds promising a shared future and home cooking.

Strawberry Festival Draws Southeast Missouri Employees
Paducah Kentucky Strawberry Festival will attract about 150 Sikeston Employees' Aid Society members from International Shoe Company plants in Sikeston and other cities. Gene Buckles says thirty five carloads will travel by highway patrol escort to Paducah for the parade and all day picnic. Over two thousand shoe factory workers from the region are expected to attend. Tickets round trip cost one dollar. Concession passes available through Buckles.

Morehouse Girl Killed by Auto
Miss Marie Wader a 17 year old Morehouse girl was killed when struck by a Chevrolet coupe driven by Wilson Moore of Canalou on a farm-to-market road near Gray Ridge. The accident occurred at 1 45 am as the party returned from a dance when she stood beside the car to inspect a tire. Investigators said headlights on the parked car were on and Moore did not see her until too late. Funeral services for Miss Wader daughter of Mr and Mrs W S Wader of Morehouse were held Monday afternoon with interment in Dexter cemetery.

Sikeston Lions Club held a fish fry at Reelfoot Lake Tennessee with about fifty members and guests. A brief meeting elected year officers including President William Woehlecke and vice presidents Charles Dement Charles H Butler A Shainberg. Delegates to the Hannibal state convention were named with Woehlecke Dement Butler Shainberg and Fuchs as delegates and Elder Beck Schorle Blanton Jr Powell Potashnick Welter as alternates.

Missouri highway deaths fell in May with 27 fatalities, down from 39 a year earlier. The State Highway Patrol notes these figures exclude cities over 10,000 population. For the first quarter of this year, 79 highway fatal accidents were recorded, down from 124 in 1939, a drop of 45.

Five Sikeston men Dr. T. C. McClure J. L. Matthews Tom Allen F E Coleman and Leo Fisher fished off Boca Grande Florida Gulf Coast landing nine tarpons and many smaller fish. Allen hooked an 80 pound tarpon. Dr McClure landed the heaviest at 110 pounds. Coleman showed skill with six pounders using the fly in a river setting. Aged Man Killed Tuesday Night in Sikeston Area
Leonard Davidson a 75 year old Columbus Kentucky resident was killed Tuesday night when struck by a car on Highway 61 north of Sikeston. The driver Louis Laseter 27 of Sikeston attempted to avoid the man as others slowed. Davidson's body was found in the northbound lane and later identified after officers and witnesses reported a drunken man on the highway. Funeral services were held at the victim's home.
