Kelso Farmer Dies After Ladder Fall at Farm
Charles Heisserer, 34, Kelso farmer, fell 16 feet from a ladder placed against an electric pole while making repairs at his farm home. He died at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau after a morning shock near a gasoline pump. Survived by widow Rose, son Donnnie, daughters Anna Rose Ramona and Caroline, parents Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Heisserer, sister Mrs. Sylvia Messmer, Kelso, and a brother in service.

Sam Rohald, owner of Sikeston Cut-Rate Drug Store, questions if the weekend burglar targeted his family or cut-rate shops. Jesse Brown, 20, is charged with robbing the Sikeston store of $95 and later a Poplar Bluff location of $32.75. Brown was arrested Saturday with a waitress accomplice, Flossie Lee Henry, and identified by clerks at both stores. He has prior counterfeiting conviction and will be tried in Butler County.

Change to Benton Court for Murder Trial of Policeman Knight
Funeral services for Mearl H Hale, Sikeston street department employee, who was shot and killed early Saturday morning by Police Officer Marshall Knight, were held Monday afternoon, July 17, at the Church of Christ, with Rev. Blue in charge. Interment in Matthews cemetery. Hale, a World War I veteran and city street worker, is survived by his widow Viola and five children, with numerous relatives. Preliminary hearing for Knight will be held at Benton before Justice Frank Frobase. Knight is in Scott county jail after a coroner’s jury found him responsible.
