Frisco Weather Record Lows Hit Five Below Zero
The coldest spell in four years saw temperatures fall to five below zero at Frisco station Monday. Snow from last Thursday lingered until Tuesday, sun and a rise to two degrees on the week's high followed. Observations note 12 degrees before eight this morning, three degrees colder than yesterday. Forecast calls for continued cold in Southeast Missouri with cloudy skies ahead.

Two Thousand Auto Plates Sold to Date
Approximately 2000 state automobile license plates for 1936 have been sold to date, according to E. E. Arthur, official distributor for this district. A number of chauffeurs and taxi licenses have been sold that are not included in this total. It is estimated that the 2000 plates sold so far this year represent about one half of the automobile owners in the district. February 15 is generally understood as the last day for purchasing 1935 plates, though no official word has been received.

Sikeston builder J. A. Sutterfield was awarded the Portageville water aeration and coagulation plant contract for 11 075 dollars, about 1400 below the second bid by John Miller of Illmo. Sikeston Man Escapes As Car Rolls Down Hill
R. E. Bailey escaped uninjured when his Plymouth sedan skidded on ice three miles north of Miller ville on Highway 61. The car left the road, rolled down a hill and crashed through a fence en route to St. Louis for legal business. Vehicle damaged but repairable. Bailey brought back to Sikeston by a Milleville wrecker.

Burning Shack Fire Injures Man Near Sikeston
Ben Butler, 55, was badly burned Tuesday night when a shack he occupied near Tanner northwest of Sikeston caught fire. He escaped in his sleeping garments as flames spread to his head, shoulders and arms. Neighbors J B Adams and family aided him, dressing his burns and providing clothing before transporting him to St Louis for care. Fire likely started from stove sparks igniting corn fodder stored in the end of the house.
