Community Chest Drive Ends in Sikeston Pledges to Finish Quota
The 1959 60 Community Chest campaign in Sikeston officially closed with pledges still arriving to meet the 43 9 thousand dollar quota for eight agencies. Dr. Sisson announced a nominating committee for next year, with officers to be elected next month. The board authorized fifty percent of allocated funds to be paid now, to be matched later as pledges are fulfilled, and adopted a resolution praising leadership and public support.

Red Peppers and Jaycees Aid March of Dimes Drive
Twenty one Red Peppers charmers with Junior Chamber of Commerce members canvassed the city Tuesday night at 8 50 pm for the March of Dimes. They collected 256 97 dollars as announced by co chair Bill Paylor. Paylor praised the effort and noted many Jaycees joined the campaign with more participants unnamed.

Quarrel Over Red Hog Ends In Gun Battle
Morehouse, TX. An argument over ownership of a red hog led to a shooting at Ross Taylor residence. David Draper, 28, of Paxico, was shot in the left arm by 45 year old Ross Taylor who fired a single barreled shotgun. Draper was hospitalized and reported in satisfactory condition. Taylor was arrested for felonious assault with a deadly weapon and released on recognizance pending investigation.

Mother Burns Trying to Save Babies in Farm House Fire
A heater explosion ignited a four room tenant house on the J. W. Smith farm near Morehouse County at 1 30 p m Tuesday, killing two infants Janice Lee Jones age two and Sherry Ann Jones ten months. Mrs Kathryn Jones tried to reach the children as flames shot from a window and was pulled away by Mrs J W Smith. The victims had recently moved from Columbus Kentucky. Funeral arrangements were set in Clinton and Columbus. There will be no inquest.
