Body of Soldier Arrives Saturday in Sikeston
The body of Pvt. Ardell Vanover, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Vanover of Sikeston, who died December 22, 1944, of wounds suffered in September in Germany, will arrive Saturday noon. Services are Sunday at Community Church of God with Pastor Tom Sailors. Burial in Memorial Park cemetery. Sikeston American Legion will handle cemetery duties. He was born May 2, 1920, near Sikeston, attended Blodgett and Sikeston schools, and served after training at Camp Robinson Arkansas. He was wounded three months after arriving in Europe.

Illmo Man Appeals to State Supreme Court
Attorneys for Courtney Clifford former town marshal at Tsulmo filed an appeal to the Missouri Supreme Court from Clifford sentence of ten years in the penitentiary on a murder charge and posted bond of 7500. Clifford was tried and convicted in the Scott County circuit court at Benton on November 24 for murdering Woodrow Holder a taxicab driver of Silmo at Clifford's home on August 31.

Montgomery in Magistrate Court on December 31 for firing Roman candles from a car at approaching vehicles on Highway 60 between Sikeston and Morehouse. Notorious Missouri pair nabbed for passing worthless checks
Roy Robert Reid 23 and Bettye June Reid 21 were arrested on Highway 60 near Sikeston by the State Highway Patrol for cashing two worthless checks in Dexter for 21.75 at Kroger and 23.50 at A P Market. They confessed to similar crimes in Lebanon Couch and Doniphan and are sought by Oregon county authorities. The couple, in a 1938 black Buick, allegedly used Reid to write the checks and Mrs Reid to cash them.

Tuesday night officers were named for the coming year for the new band organized in Sikeston. Oscar Mainard was named president with Boone Wilford as vice president and George Mize as director. Others include Paul Slinkerd secretary treasurer and assistant director Buford Baker Jr librarian John Kendig assistant librarian Charles Storms custodian George Mize Jr assistant custodian Ward Denman publicity director and Bruce Hampton business manager. The band will meet tonight and every Thursday night at the Armory for practice.
