Missouri Cotton Pickers Head to Arizona Fields
More than 600 cotton pickers from Southeast Missouri joined a manpower drive to harvest the 1944 Arizona cotton crop. Led by W. A. Cornell of the University of Missouri extension service and by War and Food Administration representatives, about 100 workers came from Sikeston area while others arrived from across the district. This marks the third large Missouri labor movement to Arizona for long-staple cotton harvests.

Cubs collect over five tons of scrap paper for war effort
Sikeston Cubs and two packs led by Truman Travelstead and Lowell Webb gathered 10 590 pounds of scrap paper on a Saturday drive. Pack 43 collected 5 880 pounds, Pack 41 4 710 pounds, with 50 plus boys helping. Trucks from Midwest Dairy and Bess Distributing aided. A next drive is set for January 27. Pack 43 notes over 50 000 pounds since last August.

Parker to Address Teachers in Scott Mississippi Club

Matthews Soldier Missing in Action Over Austria
TSSgt. Charles O Clark son of Mr and Mrs W C Clark of Matthews has been reported missing in action over Austria since December 11 according to a War Department message. He entered service February 1943 and trained as a Flight Engineer and Top Gunner on a B 24 Liberator in Italy. He was a 1942 Matthews high school graduate with siblings Ramell Nadine Edward Melvin Faris Mabel Carl Brashear and others in Kentucky families.

Bishop Ivan Lee Holt area bishop of Methodist churches will address a Sikeston audience at 2 PM tomorrow at Sikeston Methodist Church as part of the Crusade for Christ for 1945. A large Southeast Missouri crowd is expected with a Charleston speech planned Friday evening. Farm census workers attend session here
In Sikeston 30 enumerators attended a three day school of instruction for the 1945 Farm Census in Scott, New Madrid, Stoddard and Mississippi counties. Supervisor H. V. Sewell of Kennett led the session with A. T. Douglass of Senath assisting. Training for other district counties followed in Kennett Jackson and Poplar Bluff. Census work begins district wide on Monday January 8. About 25 000 farms exist in the district and counting them will be a difficult task. Farm census is conducted every five years.
