Company K to Leave Saturday for Camp Robinson
Ninety eight enlisted men and three officers of Company K 140th Regiment National Guard will leave by train Saturday morning for Camp Joseph T Robinson at Little Rock Arkansas for a year of intensive training as part of the nationwide defense program. The trip by special Missouri Pacific train will start at 8 30 from here arriving 3 15 in the afternoon. Col Harry E Dudley and Maj Dye and Capt Pfeffer will accompany the unit. The convoy will include seven coaches two baggage cars and carry 252 men from Charleston Sikeston and Dexter on a 250 mile journey. Captain Wade L Shankle said his unit is prepared for the encampment and praised the mobilization conduct.

County Reports Volunteers for Second Draft Call
Scott county has not yet received its quota for the second draft. Wayne Buchanan, secretary of the Selective Service Board, said if the call remains under ten there are enough Class 1-A volunteers to fill the quota. The county has nine additional volunteers not yet examined. Of 650 questionnaires, 309 classified, about 50 potential Class 1-A draftees secured, but not yet given physical exams. The January Missouri quota is 794 men, not yet broken down by county.

Fifty Carpenters From District Sent to Rolla Army Camp
Fifty carpenters from Missouri districts were dispatched to the Rolla army camp project this week as the state employment office filled an urgent demand. Workers from Sikeston Kennett and Caruthersville left after notification, with union affiliation required at Rolla. The camp costs have risen to over 20 million dollars, housing up to 37,906 trainees by April 15 with 2,500 already on site.

Postmaster Pleas Malcolm announced Sikeston may advance to first class pending a 1941 July 1 approval.
