East Prairie Youth Dies From Gasoline Explosion
Samuel Lane, 20, of East Prairie, died at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Infirmary, Cairo, after gasoline he was pouring into a tractor tank exploded. Thurston Drummond, an oil truck driver, extinguished the flames with a small fire extinguisher. Funeral services were held at the family home Friday. he is survived by his parents and several siblings.

Two Killed in Crash at Highways 55 and 61 Intersection
Vernon Dudley and Carl Nieswonger, both 30 and residents of Cape Girardeau, were killed when a Chevrolet coach driven by Dudley collided with an Oldsmobile coach driven by J. R. Lee at 11:30 last night. Lee, from Morley, was critically injured with a severe skull fracture and taken to a Cape Girardeau hospital. The crash occurred one block north of the court house at the Eldridge Filling Station. Coroner Clyde Poe ruled the deaths accidental. no inquest.

Sigt. Melvin Dace of the State Highway Patrol reports that in the past week about 15 drivers were arrested for failure to possess and display 1941 state license plates. The 1940 plates deadline expired February 19. Most cited drivers had no reason for using their cars and were fined.
