Sikeston City Council to Meet on Friday Night
A special Sikeston council session Friday February 25 will consider an ordinance to authorize a deed to the State Board of Education conveying the western half of the City Park Chamber area for the National Guard Armory project funded by State WPA and city sources. The armory may be used by other groups without conflicting with the National Guard. The council will also hear about a REA contract for a rural electric line across Scott, Mississippi and New Madrid counties and a proposed rate cut for electric light and power.

Schoolboy killed by auto in Greenville on Highway 34

State Rejects Deed to Big Oak Park
Attorney General Roy McKittrick said the State cannot accept title to 80 acres around Big Oak in Mississippi County as a nucleus for a state park because it lacks authority to pay taxes and drainage assessments. The document will be returned to the Big Oak Commission after tax obligations are removed. David Reese aged 64 a Sikeston resident for forty years died at his home on Ruth street at 1 30 today following a six weeks illness of multiple diseases. Born November 8 1873 in Coldwater Wayne county Missouri he moved to Sikeston as a young man. He worked 28 years as a clerk at the Sikeston post office. Survived by his widow Eula Reese mother Mrs Sarah Reese sister Miss Freda Reese brother Sam Reese two nieces Mrs Paul Slinkard and Mrs Joe Anderson and nephew Darby Reese. Funeral plans have not been announced.
