District School Men Coming to Southeast Missouri Meet
The Southeast Missouri Schoolmasters Club will hold a district meeting next Thursday night with 250 school men attending. Supt. R A Harper will oversee the event, starting with a dinner at the Methodist church basement. Dr. Frank L Wright will lead a panel on superintendent and board roles, selection, powers, salaries, transfers, calendar and budget. Willard Goslin will review the discussion from the teachers’ side. Work crews at Sikeston municipal light and power plant, aided by four more men, are thawing 35 to 40 frozen water pipes daily. Some pipes have frozen four or five times, requiring multiple trips. A slight faucet stream helps. Ground thaw may burst service lines. Pipes lie 30 inches deep. digging is hard. A hand generator is used to thaw pipes. Residents also face furnace and appliance issues. plumbers are overrun.

A coal oil stove exploded in the pump house at the Hennington Paint and Trim Shop on Highway 61 Sunday night. It burst a tank and damaged the water system. a small blaze followed but was quickly put out by the Fire Department with only slight plant damage, according to owner Wm Hennington.

Hitch-Hiker Robs Motorist in Missouri Sting
Thelma Crain and her sister from Osceola Arkansas picked up a hitchhiker named Eddie near Hayti. He slit away with about 90 dollars and car papers at Portageville. Deputy Sheriff Charlie LaFont tracked him to Starlight Tavern in New Madrid county, where Eddie was arrested and charged with burglary.
