Charles Scates 19 and his brother James 22 were in a car that collided with a four ton Local Truck Lines trailer truck four miles east of Sikeston on Highway 60 in heavy fog. Charles suffered multiple jaw fractures a facial cut and lost teeth while James sustained a fractured jaw. Both were treated locally before transport to Jefferson Barracks.

Bigger Highway Patrol Urged by Missouri Official
Supt Marvin Casteel of the State Highway Patrol said he will seek 50 additional officers from the incoming Sixtieth General Assembly. The force would rise from 115 men and 10 officers to 165. He argues patrols must be strong enough to ride in pairs due to gunman incidents. The 1937 legislature had boosted the budget to add 36 troopers. No Serious Injuries In Train Car Wreck
Eight persons escaped serious injuries when a west bound Missouri Pacific locomotive struck a car at the Highway 61 intersection near Sikeston. Clyde Morrison drove the car. Miss Mary Royal of Charleston and L. Keithley of Lesterville, Mo. commented the engineer did not see the vehicle until it was on the tracks. Betty Levine, five, suffered a facial cut and was the most seriously hurt. The train and car were moving slowly. no fatalities were reported.
