The House passed a bill making men 21 to 44 liable for military service and rejected lowering the draft age to 20. The Senate will consider. Matthews Boy Killed in Action at Pearl Harbor
James W. Ball of Matthews, brother of Mrs. Dave Littleton of Sikeston, was listed among those killed in naval action at Pearl Harbor. A message from Rear Admiral C. W. Nimitz confirmed his death and asked that the ship name be not disclosed. Ball, who moved from LaForge to Matthews, attended local schools and had served in the Navy less than a year. He is survived by his parents, two brothers Green and Russell, and two sisters Mrs. Robert Spalding and Lois Ball.

Miss Modest Hensley of Leslie Arkansas married Major Ralph C Rockwood commanding officer of the Missouri Institute of Aeronautics in a Searcy Arkansas ceremony on Saturday December 13. Mrs Rockwood taught commercial subjects at Searcy High School before marriage. Major Rockwood, promoted two weeks before, has been with the local air school since its opening in September 1940.
