Mrs. Bess Moore, 407 Hallis Street, died Monday at 4 26 pm in Delta Community Hospital after several days of illness. Born December 30, 1880 in Marion Kansas, daughter of J C and Belle Tabo Stephenson, she married George L Moore April 4 1898. The Moores lived in Sikeston for five years and previously in Cape Girardeau. she was a Methodist church member.
The Worshipful Master and officers of Morehouse Lodge No 6u3 A F & A M were elected on Tuesday night. Officers include Jos Cumer as Senior Warden Fred Moser as Junior Warden Don Taytor as secretary and Gene Hendon as treasurer. Installation date will be announced at a later time.
Tax collector reports record year in county collections with a month long office at South Kingshighway West. Totals show extensive parish involvement and precise daily sums including Nov 6 9 19 20 22 at Chaffee and other towns. Major receipts cited include Crowder Vanderiser and Com metre with hundreds to thousands in dollars.
Captain John Abe Morrison USAF Greta Morrison 38 formerly Beaufort died suddenly of a heart attack at 2 pm Saturday in Homestead Hospital. He was the son of Mrs. John A. Morrison Beaufort and the late Major Viortisen. He served with Gen Chennault Flying Tigers in China and held the Distinguished Flying Cross Air Medal and Chinese government medal. Survived by wife, a daughter Martha in Puerto Rico, and his mother. funeral at Homestead and burial at Maysville Kansas.
Funeral services for Claud Comstock will be held Thursday at 2 PM in the Welsh Funeral Home chapel with the Rev MG Jevee of First Methodist Church officiating. Burial in Garden of Memories follows Welsh service. He died of a heart ailment at his home 619 East Gladys Street, Monday night.
An over-heated motor to the furnace fan at the home of William Lyttle manager of Sterling street 510 Malcolm street caused the fire department to respond at 10 30 p m Tuesday. No damage.
Verlon Athoff, owner of the 33 Club on Highway 60, will go on trial before Judge Fred L. Henry on charges of operating a public nuisance. Prosecutor Frank Reeves seeks a court order to permanently close the club, alleged as a hangout for minors who drank beer, endured obscene language, and frequent brawls. Five minors were declared delinquents, three sent to reform schools, and the club had been padlocked since 1961 amid prior attempts to close it. First Class Vike Shipis of Sikeston Rural Route 4 died from injuries after a traffic crash while hospitalized at Belleville Air Force Base hospital. He served at Scott Air Force Base and was survived by his parents, siblings, and several relatives. Funeral services were held at Welch Funeral Home with burial at Forest Hills Memorial Cemetery. Military rites were observed by Scott Air Force Base personnel.

Carl Elam announced that his Elam Studio will relocate from 131 E Malone to 212 E Center St on January 1, 1957. After six years at Malone, the move adds floor space and aims to improve service for patrons. The new studio is in the building west of Dr. T L Chidester’s office.
J. W. Abernathy chairman of the Scott County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee urges farmers that the deadline to file applications for payment under the 1956 Agricultural Conservation Program for soil building practices is December 31. Federal cost share payments will be issued only on applications submitted on the prescribed form to the Scott County ASC Office in Benton on or before December 31.
Sikes-ton High School music dept will present two winter concerts replacing the usual Christmas program. The first concert Sunday at 3 pm features a 64-voice mixed chorus directed by Keith Collins with sacred and secular pieces and piano solos by Gordon Beaver. The second concert Friday at 8 pm showcases the string orchestra led by James F. Butler with the bows and airs glee clubs, plus two vocal ensembles. About 240 students will perform. admission is free and the public is invited to begin the Christmas season with song.
William Sever, 64, a reed farmer and longtime near Kelso resident, died at his daughter Mrs Glenn Malone's Charleston home at 3 30 pm Sunday after recent major surgery. Born Aug 19 1892 on the Sever farm near Kelso, he is survived by his wife Anna Sever, daughter Mrs Malone, two brothers Ed and Theon Sever, a sister Mrs John Compass, and two grandchildren. The body will be at Blispinghoff Funeral Home in Imo until services at 9 am Wednesday in St Augustine Catholic Church Kelso, with burial in St Augustine Cemetery.
James Henry Cohen of 207 West Trotter Street died Wednesday morning at Delta Community Hospital where he had been a patient the past month. Born January 10, 1880 in Illinois, he was nearly 77. He is survived by his wife Florence C. Cohen. The body is at Albritton Funeral Home awaiting funeral arrangements.
Fifteen cases called on the criminal docket Tuesday in Magistrate court produced a busy session and warnings about driving without an operator license. Plea outcomes included Guilty pleas with fines from five to ten dollars, jail time in some instances, and continuances for licensing or legal advice.
A 15 year old girl from Porter Texas was picked up by Sikeston Chief Arthur Bruce after information from Texas. She will be returned home. Two other blotter items noted: Floyd Gregory of St Louis fined 12 dollars for drunkenness and Napoleon Pollack of 1210 North Street fined 12 dollars for drunkenness and disturbing the peace.
Fire department responded to three alarms at 81% Hunter Street on Sunday after Jerome Johnson admitted throwing kerosene in a stove to start a fire. The blaze damaged a Davenport, and Johnson claimed he had used coal oil to start fires for 13 years without incident.
The Chamber of Commerce reports stores will stay open until 9 p.m. starting Wednesday, Dec. 19, and continue through the following Saturday. Christmas Eve, Monday, Dec. 24, will see closing at 6 p.m., and Christmas Day will be closed.

At the Sikeston Jaycees weekly meeting, 420 seats were sold and funds collected from the touchdown drive with under $2,500 yet to collect. About $13,000 on hand will aid building a new football stadium, with $2,600 in actions to be used. Roughly 40 tickets were sold house to house last week and nearly $100 donated. Work on the stadium is underway and football may be played there next season. Plans include another Golden Gloves tournament possibly in January or early February.
Mrs Nora L Deason wife of James Deason of 419 East Kathleen Street died at home Saturday morning after ill health. Funeral services were held at Nunnelee Funeral Home at 10 am Monday led by T E Garner Church of Christ. Burial followed at Sedgewichville Cemetery. She was born Sep 16 1898 in Bollinger County to Christian and Matilda Crites. Survived by husband three stepchildren Carl Fikuart Las Vegas Nev Windle and Rene Pikuart Sikeston two brothers Delmar Critee Bufordville and Purvie Crites Scopus and six grandchildren.

E P Coleman outlined a survey by Specialists In planning and building power plants calling for a 5 000 KW new seam generator immediately, with 7 300 KW more needed by 1963, at an estimated two million dollars plus bonds.
