Sikeston city council held a regular meeting on December 1 at city hall. Petitions to pave Prairie street from Center to Malone and William street from School to Scott were accepted and plans assigned to the city engineer. Scott County farmers are urged to market scrap iron to aid the National Defense Program. Scott County Agricultural Defense Board Chairman Evin Burke cites Secretary Wickard calling for increased farm scrap metal to boost iron and steel for defense materials and farm machinery. Scrap at current prices is about 45 to 50 cents per hundredweight delivered, farming parts kept for spare use.

Man Injured When Car Swerved Into River
