The 13th annual American Legion Cotton Carnival in Sikeston runs Sept 26 to 28 featuring a grand parade a King and Queen Cotton Top Miss Sikeston and the Cotton Carnival Queen. Local merchants floats schools and manufacturers invited to participate with the Missouri Pacific Baby Eagle train and high school bands. A Queen’s Ball closes the event with a city orchestra. Ros City Rides operate daily with numerous concessions and Post color displays through the 14th district.

Dexter Missouri voters chose Tom Ross in a Tuesday special election to fill the mayoral vacancy after G G Hill moved away. Ross secured 496 votes with C C Shell receiving 196 and Arthur Johnson 143. Ross will serve until the April general election and was sworn in Tuesday.

Youth Killed Six Injured In Series Of WeekendCrashes
A 16 year old boy, Cnesitex Charlies Hoehn, was killed when struck crossing Highway 61 near Perryville. Six others were injured in 14 area traffic accidents reported by Troop E over the weekend. In separate crashes, Abraham Coburn and five others from Chicago were treated after a tire blowout, while several local residents were hospitalized or treated for injuries. Authorities described the incidents as unavoidable or careless driving, with no arrests in most cases.

Two Local Airmen Leave For Training
Sgts. A Judson Boardman Jr. and James M. Arnold depart for two weeks of active duty with the U S Air Force. Boardman heads to Scott Air Base Illinois with the 94th Troop Carrier Wing Supply Division while Arnold is flown to Bakalas Air Base Indiana for maintenance and supply group training.
