Circuit Court Begins Monday in Benton with 86 criminal cases
The Scott county circuit court opens its August term at the Benton courthouse Monday morning August 8. A total of 86 criminal cases are on the docket including 56 speculating in county warrants against County Collector C. E. Felker. One murder case, John B. Manor, is scheduled and the State will seek the death penalty. Civil dockets include 134 cases with 33 divorces, four separate maintenance suits and one annulment. Notable suits involve Sikeston residents and local officials.

Coleman Buys Large Acreage In Scott And New Madrid Counties
Papers are being prepared for the transfer of 6300 acres of Scott and New Madrid county lands from the Southeast Missouri Farms Inc to E P Coleman of Sikeston. Most land lies in northwest Scott county between Oran and Perkins with about 5200 acres in cultivation. Coleman will continue farming operations and already cultivates thousands more acres for cotton and other crops and keeps 1000 head of cattle in pasturage.
