Final reports show Scott county with 1,313,708 in bonds oversubscribed by 228.3 percent. New Madrid county sold 700,276 at 140.8 percent over quota, and Mississippi county 508,409 at 105.4 percent. Missouri total bond sales reached 562,962,000 or 201 percent of state quota with E bond sales at 101,632,000 or 100.6 percent. Chairman Head credited Missouri press for aiding war financing.

Former Residents' Son Killed on Prison Ship
Friends confirm Capt. Stephen M. Byars son of Mr and Mrs S M Byars former Sikeston residents died aboard a Japanese prison ship December 15 1944. He was captured in the Philippines and held for three years. His death followed Allied air attacks on the prison ship. In Sikeston mr Byars headed the farm division of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.

The local swimming pool was ordered closed yesterday by Dr H M Kendig the City Health Physician as a precaution after George Bennett five year old son of Mr and Mrs Norman Bennett suffered a stroke of paralysis affecting his left leg and right arm He is under care at St Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau The closure follows concerns about disease spread from contact with several other children and is sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce per L E Allard Jr

Scouts Pack and Ship 8000 Pounds of Used Clothing
Boy Scout workers packed and shipped used clothing for European relief last April. The 8000 pounds, stored at Sikeston Gin Company's Warehouse in St. Louis, were sent after delays caused by box shortages and a nonfunctioning local committee. Scouts also repaired tables damaged when boys jumped on them in the sampling room.

Bottle explosion injures boy in New Madrid area
Dan McCoy third, son of Mrs. Jane McCoy of New Madrid, was seriously wounded last Friday afternoon when a bottle containing dry ice exploded in his hands. It cut a deep gash in his forehead and wounded his left eye requiring several stitches. Doctors at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau say his condition is favorable and sight likely safe. Relatives, including his grandmother and aunts, have stayed with him at the hospital.

Valden Air Gas Resumes Operations At Pacific Station
