Harold Wallace Wins Sikeston Police Chief Post
Harold Wallace led all four wards to win Sikeston police chief with 760 votes, defeating Walter Kendall who had 379 and Roy Beck with 209. In ward races Wallace topped Kendall and Beck in each ward, with Kendall sweeping 18 years as incumbent. Other city offices and school levy were decided, with several officials sworn in after a brief council meeting.

Prizes awarded in Clean Plate Contest by Woman's Civic Club
The Woman's Civic Club announced prizes for the Clean Plate Contest in Sikeston grade schools. Winners include Betty Sue Keasler and several others in Bailey and South grade schools across Fifth to Sixth grades. Prizes were one dollar, with posters to be displayed at the J. C. Penney Store. Also reported is the death of Gen Orde Charles Wingate in Burma after a three month raid behind Jap lines.

Confessed Negro Killer Henry Jones Faces Parole Fight
Henry Jones, a Sikeston Negro, pleaded guilty to second degree murder on November 9, 1943, with a 25 year sentence recommended. Sikeston City Council objected to parole, sending its resolution and petition to Circuit Judge J. C. McDowell, but no response was reported.

Sikeston Man Sentenced to Ten Years for Rape
Charley Williams, a Sikeston Black man, was found guilty of rape by a Scott County circuit court jury Saturday. Judge Norman Houser of Perryville presided after a change of venue from Circuit Judge J. C. McDowell. Williams was allowed up to April 29 to file a motion for a new trial with bond set at 10000 dollars.

The Resurrection, an Easter cantata by Charles Forteyn Manney, will be presented at the Sikeston High School auditorium at four o'clock Sunday afternoon, April 9, by the Sikeston High School Orchestra and Girls' Chorus. Robert Head, the music director, will direct. Admission is free. Soloists include Yvonne Bugbee, Mildred Demaris, Elane McNeely, Rosemary Proffer, Audrey Aldrich, Peggy Harris, Betty Jo Bacon, and Ann Hatfield. A girls quartet will sing as well.

Red Cross War Fund drive in Scott county will continue beyond last Friday until the $22,700 goal is reached. Rev. Walter Craig says $15,517.49 has been received to date with Sikeston over $9,000, Benton $545.80 of $500, Oran $874.73 of $800. The shoe factory strike at Chaffee hampers progress. total receipts are $9,869.66 including $1,313.85 from Missouri Institute of Aeronautics and $650 from the International Shoe Company and workers.

Boy Scout Circus A Great Success
More than a thousand spectators viewed the Boy Scout circus at the National Guard Armory Friday night. About 1500 Scouts and Cubs took part after weeks of preparation and sold over 2000 tickets. Sikeston Cub Pack 43 led with $162.40 in sales, followed by Charleston Troop 32 at $85. Remaining proceeds benefit Sikeston Cep-Wab Stoddard and New Madrid districts. Prizes included camping gear and Scout equipment, with many Pack 43 members earning neckerchiefs. The event featured an Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Dee Cox Jennings, Edwin Morris, and Porter Hill, plus a Grand Finale tableau and music by the Sikeston high school band. The Coca-Cola Bottling Company supplied the sound system.
