A Lenox dinner tale recalls a sixty’s case where a workman claimed left eye blindness. The judge used fake glasses and a chalkboard trick to reveal the man could read with the damaged eye, dismissing the case as fraud.
The article recalls President elect Buchanan near Lancaster Pennsylvania where Abraham N Costel, head of a turnpike company, granted toll concessions to visitors. After election, campaign seekers swarmed the residence and Buchanan urged Cassel to extend tolls or erect higher gates to keep crowds away.

At Clayton New Mexico on November 17 a political feud erupted in Porto Rico saloon as rival factions clashed. Rivers died, Prouk Gareia near death, Cip Garcia and Frank Gareia wounded. several others detained. Police hold suspects amid rising tensions in the native element.
Chicago November 16 engineers on large railroads study copper alloying in steel rails. If tests prove copper improves toughness and wear resistance, rail use could rise sharply. St Paul used 5000 tons of 5 percent copper alloy on Cornwall source rails showing enhanced performance. In Arizona a local wager involving a peanut and a toothpick was noted as anecdote.
