Rich gold find reported at Caballero group mines
The Caballero group near Hillsboro New Mexico yielded a rich strike in La Patrona last Saturday. Joe Caballero, son of Bernardino Caballero, says ore from 88 feet in a new drift is studded with gold and valued at not less than 1000 dollars per ton. The vein spans five feet with multiple seams and extends about 6000 feet across four claims. Caballero owns six claims with shafts to 70 and 40 feet, water plentiful and a road to Lake Valley 18 miles away. Detailed smelter returns show large gold and silver yields, indicating potential for one of the region’s richest mines if values hold.
