Rio Grande dam project details and vast storage capacity
The Eagle or Elephant Butte dam on the Rio Grande is estimated at 6 million dollars with a 1200 foot crest and 275 feet height. Foundations require blasting bedrock and embedding steel pins to prevent slippage, while a 800 foot spillway and a 50 mile reservoir will store over 2.09 million acre feet to meet irrigation needs and cushion dry years.
