A new hospital telephone system will soon link every building ward and private room at the Methodial hospital in Philadelphia enabling patients to converse with relatives and friends outside the institution and receive messages from distant contacts. The system will allow patients not restricted by illness to use telephones in the city or hundreds of miles away.
Secretary Root approves rules for a national match to be shot in September at Seagirt New Jersey with militiamen and regular troops competing in teams of 12 from each department. Prizes include The National Trophy 4000 and 500 for top teams plus the Holton and Drones awards with medals for winning members.
Prof Pickering of Harvard Observatory plans a combined fund uniting all world observatories to pool endowments totaling about 10 million dollars. He argues current spending on observations is excessive and competition wasteful and suggests distributing work more equitably across institutions.
