Milk Price Hike Pressures School Lunch Costs
Inflation drives higher lunch costs at Sidney schools with milk rising by a cent and a half in half pint cartons, adding about 3200 to annual expenses. Bread butter cheese and some surplus items are scarce, while the 25 cent lunch rate may not be sustainable. Superintendent Pedersen notes menus are financially risky, yet a rate increase is avoided to ease parent burden.

Wheat was quoted at $1.52 a bushel in Sidney yesterday, down 18 cents from $1.70 a few weeks ago. With five million bushels of 1966 wheat in Cheyenne County, a paper loss tops $900 thousand for producers.
