Harvest sugar beets set for Oct 5 in southern Panhandle
The 1964 sugar beet harvest in the southern Panhandle will begin Monday October 5 according to Great Western Sugar Co. manager Johnson of the Ovid Colorado factory. Beet digging starts in some Ovid area locations October 1 while Sidney and Sunol growers urged October 5 as the harvest date. Dumps will be open at Sidney and Sunol, factory operations to begin when a sufficient supply is on hand, likely October 6. The crop looks good with near 18 ton average yields. Nebraska reports show above normal stand weight and sugar content, and Great Western predicts a longer campaign into February with mills across five states.

State Farmers Losing Out On Income Hruska

Lambert Victim Today Dies at 90 in Sidney Home
Victor V. Lambert, 90, died suddenly this morning at his son Victor L. Lambert’s home after a presumed heart attack. Funeral services are pending at Gehrig & Son Funeral Home. Born November 20, 1873 in Adel Iowa, he married Lupita Lovato in 1911. Survivors include his son, a brother Leroy Lambert of Anaheim California, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He had lived in Western Nebraska, Western Kansas, Bayard and Sidney during his life.
