Death of the Man Whom Lincolns Assassination Made Vice President
The New York Sun reports the death of Senator Lafayette S. Fueter in Norwich at four AM on the 18th after a congeative chill. Born 1806 near Franklin, he rose from local law practice to state legislator, mayor of Norwich, and two terms in the US Senate, later serving as Judge of the Supreme Court of Errors. He was known for strong views on debt imprisonment and Connecticut divorce law, and as a public leader in Norwich's Park Church community.

Jol Waddell twenty three year old private in Company E of Sutton died after a guard duty fall at the fair grounds amid a group of onlookers. He toppled from a fence while monitoring the eastern driving park, sustaining a spinal injury and paralysis before dying after convulsions. His body will be escorted home to Sutton by Company E once repatriation arrangements are finalized.

A man named Hogan, a Fillmore County resident, was killed on the B and M railroad at Friendville when a freight car derailed near the depot. The victim, not an employee or passenger, was found across the rail with severe injuries and identified later at the station house.
