City to lease airport land as voters weigh bonds

Ag Society Seeks Signatures to Dissolve County Fair Board
Petitions circulated this week seek to dissolve the county fair board in Cheyenne County. Lowell M. Davis acts as temporary secretary for the Cheyenne County Agricultural Society until permanent officers are named. Signatures must total at least 25 percent of last general election votes, from qualified electors, and must reach 60 percent to pass. The plan would replace the current board with the agricultural society model now used in over ninety percent of Nebraska counties.

65 Criminal Cases In Court In September
Sixty five criminal complaints, most of which involved traffic offenses, had been filed in Cheyenne County court up to Monday morning. Three new ones were placed on file as a result of weekend arrests, Judge Robert A. Barlow's records revealed. William Frahm, charged with speeding at night, paid a ten dollar fine. Four others were fined one dollar for operating a motor vehicle without a driver's license. They are Silbert Muro, Ray Tadady, Fred E. Cronk, and Keith Jones. Other charges filed, upon which no hearing had been held up to mid morning Monday, included: Jacob Ringleman, intoxicated, Charles Lamphear, drunken driving, and William Winkter, reckless driving.

Labor Needs Lower As Depot Retracts
Labor demands in the Sidney area fell sharply over the past month as orders at the Sioux Ord nance Depot were canceled. The USES bulletin notes unemployment will rise with a depot personnel reduction of over 200 workers. Local housing and beet and potato harvests may offer brief relief, but most unemployed are unlikely to relocate for work elsewhere.
