Nebraska protest targets Sperry & Hutchinson trading stamps

County Attorney Hartigan files with the secretary of state to block reinstatement of Sperry & Hutchinson in Nebraska for alleged stamping law violations. Stein Bros Hastings faces a similar protest though already paid this year’s occupation fee. Sperry & Hutchinson owes 1911 tax. payment before November 30 could compel acceptance.

Four Men Arrested for Seining Fish Near Ashland

Chief Game Warden Miller seized a freight car half full of fish from a public lake near Ashland. Theodore Lesch is named among the four men, two from Towa and two from Omaha. The haul, mostly buffalo, carp and bullheads, used a 600 foot net. The warden iced the catch and will send it to Lincoln asylum and to Lincoln penitentiary Switzerlana.

Boxing Exhibit At Tobin House Featuring Fitzgerald And Smith

Tonight at Tobin Opera House a boxing exhibit pits Jack Fitzgerald of South Omaha against Tommy Smith in fifteen rounds with preliminaries. Fitzgerald previously beat Van Nelson on July 4 and drew with Smith in an earlier exhibition, drawing a large crowd from nearby towns.

Sheep Buyers From Lodgepole Load 1100 Head at Sidney Yards

Messrs Killgore and Englert of Lodgepole purchased 1100 sheep at Sidney Stock Yards on Thursday. They will graze the flock for ninety days at Lodgepole before shipping to an eastern market. The piece suggests feeding rough hay locally to use up surplus fodder and fatten sheep for higher future prices.

End of Constructive Residence Credit for Homesteaders

Acting Secretary of the Interior dated August 4 1911 abolishes constructive residence credit for entrymen. Beginning December 1 1911 final proofs must show five years actual continuous residence. Absent holders under the leave of absence act must makeup time before final proof. Warren act absentees delay proofs accordingly.
